Stupid high-altitude ban

Let's look at this mess again. Because it's absolutely absurd. SI did.

Let's blame Bolivia for having mountains. It's entirely the Ecuadorians fault they're up so high -- not God's creation, not Tom Cruise's vodo magic, not plate tectonics and all that stuff, whatever your beliefs may be.

If these South American countries can't host the game at their own stadium, what's the point???

Maradona was in Bolivia recently for a charity match. After a hat trick (really) and some blow the Argentine legend had this to say about the FIFA-imposed altitude ban:

"You have the right to play where you were born," Maradona told the crowd. "That cannot be decided neither by God nor much less by Blatter."

If Maradona makes you look bad, you're obviously wrong.

I think the Reuters blog said it well: how about a temperature ban too? Or a decibel-level ban for the crowd?

I mean you don't think Lambeau Field is a blatant home field advantage? We're used to freezing temps and driving snow -- and you're not!

Isn't home field advantage one of the pillars of sports. The home crowd, the familiarity with the court. The away team is supposed to be at a disadvantage!

Anyways, I'm just ranting now. I really just wanted to make a 'plate tectonics' reference. That's why you love me.
