Not only did Spanish forward David Villa (left) have a hat trick -- but a natural hat trick for the first three goals of the game. All three different. All three brilliant.
What a wondrous display of determination and talent to highlight a marvelous day of soccer. Villa had, by far, the best day of the tournament and put his team up with Holland as the most impressive.
Definitely made my "Spain to win" pick feel good for a day.
By the way, we haven't seen a hat trick in Euros since 2000. And performances by Torres and Xavi were superior as well, as always.
Sweden 2, Greece 0
The defending champs got off to a poor start -- probably because they're a poor team that no one wants to watch.
Playing five defenders and everyone behind the ball, getting Greece out of the tournament should be priority No. 1.
But we also saw some good stuff from the Swedes. The lineup has good talent, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first int'l goal since 2005 was a welcome sight.
It was also the first Euro-goal Greece allowed in 425 minutes.
