Portugal advances to quarters!

Not bad. I figured they would have to work a little more.

In a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic, we saw another great offensive performance. This time CR7 and Deco played the heroes with a goal and assist each.

And who ever would've thought Ronaldo would've passed that ball to Quaresma for the clincher? Not me. Not in my life.

Of course, the side plot was Coach Scolari -- who we learned will be going against the prodigy with Ricardo Carvalho and Ferreira at Chelsea next season.

How will that effect the team? Not sure, but they seem to be one notch behind what we've seen from Holland and Spain .

They will have time think about it though, without an important game for a week.

Turkey 2, Switzerland 1

In the swimming pool known as Basel, Switzerland, we saw the most exciting finish of the tournament.

During injury time, Arda Turan found a splendid -- albeit deflected -- goal on a counter attack to keep the Turks dying dreams alive and knock the Swiss out of the tournament.

The slogfest of a first half played to the hometown boys advantage, as the technically superior Turkey couldn't hold onto the ball.

But when the rain stopped Turkey responded, coming back from a 1-0 halftime deficit for the win.

"I did wish for rain to stop. I did pray to God for that," said [Turkey coach Fatih] Terim.
