Holy suckin' Roma Batman (UCL round-up)

Man, I never woulda had Roma losing to Cluj, a Romanian side, at home.

Christian Panucci had the favored side up 1-0 with a header in the 17th minute, but Emmanuel Culio bagged the next two with goals at 28' and 49' to give the visitors a shocking win.

It wasn't undeserved either, the underdogs played well enough to win and deserved the three points in Group A.

Other scores (home team listed first):

Chelsea 4-0 Bordeaux -- This ESPN-aired game was never really in doubt. The Blues were too strong in all aspects of the game and should cruise very easily in Group A. Frank Lampard (14'), Joe Cole (30'), Florent Malouda (82') and Nicolas Anelka (90').

Werder Bremen 0-0 Anorthosis Famagusta -- Eh, who really cares about this Group B game. The Germans outshot the Cypriots 24-5.

Panathinaikos 0-2 Inter Milan -- A solid road win for Jose Mourinho (who Serie coaches think should be smacked in the mouth) and the boys to take the lead in Group B considering they were outshot 20-9. After Mancini gave the Italians the lead in the 27th minute, they had to hold on for dear life. Adriano netted a second in the 85th.

Barcelona 3-1 Sporting Lisbon -- The Spaniards get a workmanlike win over the Portuguese at home in Group C. Sporting's Tonei pulled one back in the 72nd after two early goals by Barca (Marquez 21', Eto'o 60'). Xavi had one in the 87th.

FC Basel 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk -- Great road win for the Ukrainian champs in Group C. Here's the scoring sum: Fernandinho, Shakhtar, 25'; Jadson, Shakhtar, 45'; David Angel Abraham, Basel, 90'

Liverpool 2-1 Marseilles -- Stevie G. was the hero. As always. He had a looping shot in the corner to equalize in the 26th after a Lorik Cana strike three minutes earlier. Gerrard scored on a PK (twice after a retake) to clinch the Group D win in the 32nd.

PSV Eindhoven 0-3 Atlético Madrid -- Kun Aguero was a stud to give the Spaniards a great road win in the Netherlands. Maradona's baby daddy had goals in the 9th and 36th minutes before Maniche added a third in the 54th in Group D.
