Qatar: a World Cup host?

Qatar is rich. Take a look at its financial center.

So rich is Qatar that the country is seriously considering making a World Cup bid for 2018 or 2022.
“We are interested and we believe we can successfully host such a prestigious event as the World Cup finals,” [secretary-general of the Qatar Football Association Saud] Al Mohannadi told Reuters by telephone.

“We have the stadiums and we have experience hosting top sports events. We don’t want to rush into anything, we need to find out what the full requirements are, but we are interested.”
Now that would be interesting. I doubt it would ever by FIFA's top choice.

But who knows? The world could change.

With all the focus being on Dubai, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Arab countries pitching for the world cup.Money wouldn't be an issue and if they can build islands out in the ocean, certainly a few stadiums could be put up in no time. I bet they'd be ready before South Africa if they stared now.
