The strike of Dani Alves

Brazil was foundering and floundering. The effort was lagging. The attack was stagnant.

Their opponent, host South Africa, was putting on an inspired performance in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Then came one free-kick for the Selecao in the 88th minute.

Up stepped Dani Alves, a recent substitute in a pathetic black turtleneck. With one magical swing of the right foot, the Barcelona lightning rod swung a shot with the perfect combination of curl and power to the far post.

A diving Bafana goalkeeper flailed wildly but unsuccessfully only to watch the ball ricochet off the post into the net for the winner.

The winner and a berth to the final.

See for yourself.
