UCL group stage: day 1

Group A
Juventus 1-1 Bordeaux -- In a rain-soaked Stadio Olimpico, the French champs earned a point on an offside (but not called) equalizer by Jaroslav Plasil in the 75th minute.

Maccabi Haifa 0-3 Bayern Munich -- Thomas Muller netted a brace (that's four goals now in four games for him) as the German side throttled the sorry Israeli hosts.

Group B
Besiktas 0-1 Manchester United -- Paul Scholes, after being sent off this weekend, headed in a rebound in the 77th minute to give the Red Devils three points.

Wolfsburg 3-1 CSKA Moscow -- Player of the day has to go to Grafite (above), who netted a hat trick in the German side's UCL debut.

Group C
FC Zurich 2-5 Real Madrid -- Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on free kicks as the Spanish side surived a late comeback and some crazy Swiss fans.

Marseilles 1-2 AC Milan -- The old man has still got it. Pippo Inzaghi scored twice in a win for the Italian, who dropped Ronaldinho to the bench.

Group D
Chelsea 1-0 FC Porto -- In a battle of the ex-Mourinho clubs, Nicolas Anelka scored the winner in the 48th minute as rain poured at Stamford Bridge.

Atl├ętico Madrid 0-0 Apoel Nicosia -- 26 shots for the Spanish hosts against the lowly Cypriots. Zero goals.
